Yesterday was the release of the first Great Gatsby trailer. I'm a big fan of writer/director Baz Luhrmann and was already looking forward to this film (especially because some Sydney friends worked on it and are in the film), but after seeing the trailer, I'm even more interested. I'm not a big fan of 3D and generally avoid it, but I knew if anyone could pull a period film off in 3D, it would be Baz!
The Great Gatsby is an adaptation of F Scott Fitzgerald's classic novel written in 1922 and set just after World War I during the Depression. Small town boy, Nick Carroway moves to New York and is swept up into the lavish lifestyle of Jay Gatsby. But with the extravagant parties and romances comes tragedy and heartbreak.
You may know of one of the famous film adaptations from 1974 starring Robert Redford and Mia Farrow.
Anyway, you can find out this info all online, I just wanted to share it with you because I think it looks great. It has the Baz Luhrmann flair that people either love or hate (I'm a lover) and I can see elements of what I loved about Moulin Rouge. If nothing else, it will look incredible and the great cast, led by Leonardo DiCaprio as Gatsby and also starring Tobey Maguire, the beautiful Cary Mulligan, Isla Fischer, and Joel Edgerton.
Here's the trailer, so you can see for yourself (if you haven't already!)
