Last week Ashley from After Nine to Five wrote about how hard it is sometimes to stay positive working tirelessly on your blog or online business and feeling demoralised seeing what other people out in the websphere are doing. I spend a lot of my evenings online looking at blogs, working on my own blog, and checking out various online stores, and Pinterest, and while it sometimes results in these feelings, I really try to think of it more positively,… Read more »

Facebook updates come around about as often as new reality TV shows these days but, having said that, the new Pages update has possibly the most amount of customisation I've come across so far on Facebook, and that's really saying a lot! It is a well-known fact that I waste spend an inexplicable amount of time on Facebook and so, naturally, I decided a little while ago to create a page for Through My Looking Glass. For a while, I… Read more »

You have probably seen this around on Twitter or Facebook or some other social networking site in the past few days. If you have not, then I commend you for not being as much of an online junkie as I am and I thank you for choosing to stop by my little blog! For me, personally, I think that the Kony 2012 campaign initiated by charity organisation, Invisible Children, is one of the most compelling PR strategies I have seen… Read more »

If you are a little behind on the news, you may not have heard about the Wikipedia blackout. For 24 hours on January 18 (today in the U.S), Wikipedia is taking a stand against two bills that are being discussed in the United States Senate that, if passed, will create a world of hurt to the wonderful world wide web (yeah, it's wwww now). I'm not a total pro on all the technicalities, so check here for more info (yes,… Read more »

In 2007, I got a Facebook friend request from a boy. A boy who, when I was 18, I had a sneaking suspicion I was going to fall in love with. At the silly age of 18, however, we weren't ready – he certainly wasn't – and despite my instincts, I wasn't either. We went our separate ways got on with our lives. When old friends add me on Facebook, I generally choose to accept (or not) and leave it… Read more »

A few weeks ago, I was on Facebook – as I've been known to do – and my friend Cassie posted a link to the Lexie Dendunnen Trust Fund saying that Natalie Press, another mother-to-be at her baby center had passed away suddenly. Natalie died at 21 leaving behind almost-one year old Lexie and her partner, Travis. She also, devastatingly, took their unborn second child with her. Lexie and her mum, Natalie (source) I'm not much of a news service… Read more »

I read this article today about the lost art of postcard writing and the author lamenting the fact that he only received one post card this (American) summer from friends holidaying in Mongolia. It made me realise that my generation has possibly completely missed this tradition. I remember sending and receiving one or two postcards in my time, but thanks to Facebook, Twitter, Skype, and email, this is just a form of communication that has never been part of my… Read more »

This week something really special happened in the viral video world. Instead of the usual overnight sensations that leave me questioning the direction our civilisation is heading, I feel the latest addition to the "Internet Craze" category is completely deserved – in less than a week 550,000 people have shared this video on Facebook. Going against my natural reaction to cringe at the usual Facebook and YouTube hype, I had the opposite reaction and felt the need to share it… Read more »

Starting a blog has literally opened my eyes up to so many different things in the clouds – and I'm sure there are many more still out there that I am yet to discover. This month alone I have started so many new accounts on things like Sound Cloud (to share audio), Flickr (check out my photo a day project), Twitter (I've had it for ages but only just linked it up to things I actually use like Word Press… Read more »
