I challenged Bailey a little while ago to come up with something fun for us to do, and I can safely say that he rose to that challenge. No, he didn't organise the Festival of Lights just so we would have something to do on the weekend, but he did find it and insist that we go (even though it was cold and I kind of wanted to just put my PJ's on and settle in for a night of season four of The Wire).
Sydney really can put on a show when she wants to! If you live in this glorious place, I suggest you head down to Circular Quay any night until the 16th of June to check it out. I wish my photos could do it justice, but they just can't, too much blur and too little light – sorry kids!
All the same, for those of you who can't get there, I hope these photos can at least give you an idea of the spectacle of light displays – I've got a little video too that will hopefully work…
We started at the Opera House because that was the beginning, naturally.
In the absence of the regular lights, pink and blue lights filled their spot. Across the harbour we saw the fire show, and some of the biggest buildings in the CBD had coloured lights projected onto them.
The next step was to walk around the Harbour and as we walked, we were literally bumping into light displays (and walking up them)…
And some more…
I'm only just starting to realise how many photos we actually took. The next part was my favourite – it was so clever! The Electric Canvas – a group of state-of-the-art image projection specialists – created one of the most fascinating things I've ever seen. It was a 5-10 minute display on the front side of Customs House, transforming it from an old, crumbling building, to a colourful one, filling it up with water and burning it down.
Here is a little video I took on the old iPhone 4 to give you an idea of how it looked in motion – the stills just don't convey it properly.
And then we got around to the other side, near the Rocks.
So that was our Saturday night! It's getting pretty cold here, and it was fun to get all rugged up and see the city at night all lit up. It's been a crazy week (hence the lack of posts), but it was good to get out and spend some quality time with the boy – oh, and eat ice cream too!
Kx
